Situated along the coastline at the south end of Sandbridge, the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge contains over 9,200 acres of beach, dunes, woodlands, and marsh. Visitors to the Refuge have a variety of opportunities to observe wildlife in its natural habitat along a variety of trails. Wildlife Watch Bus Tours are available through the Refuge, and Sunset Paddle Tours are offered through False Cape State Park. Outdoor facilities are open daily dawn to dusk. The Visitor Contact Station hours are 8 AM - 4 PM Tuesday through Friday, 9 AM - 4 PM weekends. The Visitor Center is closed on Sundays and Mondays only Labor Day to Memorial Day and closed on federal holidays. Daily Tram Rides leave the Refuge parking lot at 4005 Sandpiper Road for excursions into the Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park where visitors can spend time hiking and sightseeing before the return trip. Sandbridge Beach is open for public use with access to the beach every 4 to 5 houses. There are two designated beach areas with seasonal lifeguards, located at the 2500 block across from the Sandbridge Market and at the far south end of Sandbridge at Little Island Park.
