Jack Siebert: Anchored in History
After a career as a longshoreman for 26 years, Jack Siebert became a real estate broker in 1963. He co-founded Warren, Siebert, Page Realty in Norfolk in 1964. As mentioned in “Siebert Realty: Anchored in History”, Jack decided to establish a branch office of Warren, Siebert, Page at Sandbridge Beach in 1973 to be more accessible to the homes and guests in the area.
Throughout his real estate career, he received awards that include twice being voted “Realtor of the Year” by the local Board of Realtors. He served as president of the Norfolk Board of Realtors, president of the Virginia Association of Realtors, and was vice president within the National Association of Realtors.
Although Jack was overwhelmingly successful in real estate within the Sandbridge area, he also loved to make memories with his friends and family. Jack had a winning personality that was cherished by all those who were around him. His favorite pastimes included hosting parties with his wife, Jean, spending time with their family, cooking incredible meals, and cheering on the ODU Monarchs Men’s Basketball Team. Jack was a man of his community and was always looking for opportunities to be involved in any way that he could. Jack was pleased to be the Past Grand Master (1961) of the Corinthian Lodge No. 266, Norfolk, as well as a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. Additionally, Jack was a loyal member of the Norfolk Host Lions Club and the Virginia Beach Auxiliary Police. Jack was honored to serve twice as president of the American Cancer Society and was proud of his involvement with the Old Dominion University Intercollegiate Foundation Board. He received an honorary degree from Old Dominion in 2001.
Jack passed away when I was a child, but I see his legacy live on through the love and relentless hard work of Team Siebert. One memory that is frequently shared in our office is the way that Jack would greet his team as he walked in the doors. The minute he stepped through the threshold he would open his arms wide and exclaim, “My People!” with unmatched joy. Even though Jack became less involved in the operations of Siebert Realty as time went on, he still very much considered every member of Team Siebert as part of his family and was immensely proud of the work that they continuously do for our owners and guests. He was a great husband, father, friend, and Realtor. He enriched the lives of those he touched, and he will long be remembered in our hearts and in Sandbridge.
Many days I find myself wishing that Jack, or as I call him, Pop Pop, was able to see the way that Siebert Realty has grown in size, but kept the intentionality that makes it so special in Sandbridge. I believe that he would be proud of the work that “his people” have done in the years since his passing. We strive to provide guests with great memories, owners with excellence, team members with camaraderie, and doing it all with integrity and great fun – just as he always wanted it to be.
