Today, however, we’re excited to introduce you to a special children’s book inspired by our beloved beach community: The Wild Adventure of Mitch and the Sand Bridge by Zac Hawrot.

The Spark of Inspiration

Author Zac Hawrot has been vacationing in Sandbridge for over 10 years, and it was during one of these cherished family trips that the idea for his book was born. It all started with a simple “what if” conversation on the beach:

“What if the only access to this beach was destroyed? What would we do?”

This question led to a series of imaginative queries about the area, eventually evolving into a captivating world of mystery inspired by Sandbridge’s unique terrain. Hawrot wanted to create a story he’d love to read as a kid — one filled with summer vacations, monsters, video games, and the mystery books he enjoyed growing up.

The Story

The Wild Adventure of Mitch and the Sand Bridge invites readers into a thrilling summer vacation that’s anything but ordinary. Here’s the summary:

Welcome to summer vacation! The time for good memories, great beaches, and — invasions?

Beach vacations are supposed to be fun. They’re meant to bring the family together. But for 13-year-old Mitch, it’s not that easy, not when his father recently passed away. It also doesn’t help that the island he’s staying at gets invaded by alien octopus, turning the quaint beach town into a war zone.

Venturing through pirate ships, hidden coves, mysterious gateways, and a cave of nightmares, Mitch will quickly learn that he plays a vital role in this invasion. If he wants to save his family and defeat the terrifying source of this calamity, Mitch must put aside his grief and turn into the son his dad always knew he could be.

Join this wild, fantasy adventure where a boy’s world gets turned upside down, leaving him only two options: become the hero or — GAME OVER.
